ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on Thursday submitted a call attention notice in the National Assembly Secretariat against the hike in prices of petroleum products, saying “This move by the government would give rise to inflation and put extra burden on already encumbered population.”

On Wednesday, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government revised prices of petroleum products for March 2018, according to which, now petrol would be available for Rs 88.07, Hi-speed diesel for Rs 98.45, kerosene oil for Rs 76.46 and light diesel oil for Rs 65.30.

“It is serious matter and needs immediate attention of the House,” read the call attention notice submitted by the PPP lawmakers Syed Naveed Qamar, Dr Nafisa Shah, Shazia Marri, Mir Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, Syed Ghulam Mustafa, Imran Zafar Leghari, Dr Shazia Sobia, Shugufta Jummani, Abdul Sattar Bachani and Mir Shabbir Ali Bijarani under Rule 88 of the Rules of Procedure of Conduct of Business in National Assembly 2007.

The notice read “We would like to draw the attention of the Minister for Petroleum towards the substantial increase in prices of petroleum products causing grave concern among public.”

“This prices of these products in Pakistan are already high as compared to other regional Countries. Rather than providing relief to the public government has further increased the prices of these products to fill its pockets.”

Meanwhile separately, the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah also condemned the surge in prices of petroleum products, and demanded the government to withdraw its decision.
