ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has expressed its reservations on the statement released by the Chairman of the Special Committee on Delimitation regarding the demand to hold general elections under older Population Census.

On Saturday, the Working Group of the Special Committee on Delimitation in its meeting Chaired by the Federal Minister for Privatisation Daniyal Aziz rejected the draft delimitation proposals as flawed, and recommended an amendment to the Constitution to pave the way for holding general elections on the basis of old demarcation of constituencies.

In a statement issued on Monday, the PPP Central Information Secretary Dr Nafisa Shah said that the PPP representation was missing in the meeting of the Special Committee on Delimitation and we neither endorse nor agree with the statement of the Chairman of the Committee Daniyal Aziz.

Dr Nafisa Shah said that after the passing of Constitutional amendment unanimously by both Houses, it is incomprehensible why Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) wants to backtrack on an agreed formula for timely elections.

“It seems that PML-N wants to delay the elections which we cannot agree on,” she said.

The Central Information Secretary said that seemingly the way the Committee affairs were handled from the start seemed to be aggressive and confrontationist.

Nafisa Shah said that the right forum for appeals is the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and where violations of Section 20 of Elections Act are observed the right forum is the Supreme Court.
