ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Monday announced a three-day mourning following the death of party’s stalwart and senior leader Jahangir Badar.

The Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari announced the three-day mourning, to be observed across the country by PPP, and canceled his scheduled engagements.

In a condolence message issued by the PPP Secretariat in Islamabad, Bilawal Bhutto expressed shock and pain over the demise of party’s senior leader and former secretary general Jahangir Badar.

Paying glowing tribute for his unshakable loyalty, commitment and conviction to “Bhuttoism” during his whole life, he said that Jahangir Badar was a ‘Jiyala’ who fought against ruthless martial laws. The deceased braved imprisonments and torture but stood steadfast and committed to Bhuttoism under Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto and entire decades of party’s struggle till his last breathe, he added.

Bilawal expressed sympathies with the members of bereaved family and all the Jiyalas, adding “Jehangir Badar will continue to illuminate in our memories as a brave party leader, worker and a tall symbol of loyalty to Bhuttoism and democracy.”

Jahangir Badar passed away due to cardiac arrest in Lahore last night. He was 72.

Earlier, President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed heartfelt condolences on the sad demise of renowned politician Jahangir Badar.

Paying rich tributes to the services of the late politician, the president said the contributions of late Jahangir Badar towards strengthening of democracy in the country would always be remembered. He prayed for the departed soul to rest an eternal peace and tranquility.

In his condolence message, the prime minister paid rich tribute to political struggle. He said that Jahangir Badar was a great political asset who believed and worked for the promotion of democratic norms in our country.
