ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Wednesday held consultations at PM’s House in Islamabad over the name of caretaker prime minister.

This was third official meeting between the two leaders.

During the meeting, both the prime minster and the opposition leader suggested names for the interim prime minister as agreed by their respective alliance parties as well.

The incumbent government led by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will cease to work after May 31 and all assemblies will stand dissolved. Afterward, an interim setup will evolve which will ensure the conduct of next general elections as per the Constitution.

Talking to media, Khursheed Shah said during his meeting with the prime minister, he proposed to dissolve government a day before; however, the prime minister rejected his proposal.

Khursheed Shah said he also discussed the matter of federal budget 2018-19 with the prime minister. He said the budget should be for four months, adding the incumbent government had no power to present the annual budget.

Following his meeting with the prime minister, Syed Khursheed Shah also met the Vice Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shah Mehmood Qureshi at his Chamber in the National Assembly in a bid to take him on board about his meeting with the prime minister.

The PTI leader Dr Shireen Mazari and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Naveed Qamar were also present in the meeting.

Khursheed Shah will inform the Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and the Co-Chairman PPP regarding the consultations. The opposition leader will also consult the leaders of other opposition parties.
