PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Wednesday restored the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) electoral symbol ‘bat’, nullifying the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision of depriving PTI of its iconic symbol.
The two-member division bench of the PHC comprising Justice Ejaz Anwar and Justice Syed Arshad Ali announced the verdict reserved earlier in the day on the PTI’s petition against the ECP’s decision revoking the party’s ‘bat’ electoral symbol and declaring its intra-party polls “unconstitutional”.
In its judgment, the PHC declared the Election Commission’s decision as unconstitutional, and directed the ECP to hand the PTI its electoral symbol ‘bat’ back and upload the party’s internal poll certificate on its website.
Later talking to media, the PTI lawyer Barrister Ali Zafar said that bat as electoral symbol returned to PTI, and now no one can stop the party from sweeping the upcoming polls.
