ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Opposition parties on Friday extended their support to democratic system as they wanted completion of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government’s tenure.

Talking to reporters after attending the meeting of Parliamentary leaders of Opposition at his chamber in the National Assembly in Islamabad on Friday, the leader of the opposition Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said the opposition supported the democratic process and elections should be held on time adding assemblies must complete their tenure.

Khursheed Shah said opposition wanted to resolve all issues amicably as it was in national interest adding the opposition did not favour politics of agitation in the Country.

The Opposition leader said they had no tension with PML-N as a ruling party had had the right to enjoy powers vested by the people of the Country.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Shah Mehmood Qureshi said all opposition members had inked their signatures and handed over the document to opposition leader so he might requisite the session whenever he deemed fit.

“Our fight is not against democratic system,” the PTI leader said.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) head Siraj ul Haq said that “we want accountability for all as no one should be above the law”.

The Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) Chief Aftab Sherpao said his party and the Awami National Party (ANP) were awaiting the apex court’s decision.

The Awami Muslim League (AML) Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that “The Opposition has shown today that they all want to preserve democracy in the Country.”

Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Pakistan leader Farooq Sattar also addressed the media and reiterated the opposition’s decision to support democracy.

The Opposition parties met to formulate a joint strategy in light of the recent developments arising from the report.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
