JATI UMRAH, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister and President Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Nawaz Sharif has said that everybody should demonstrate seriousness for holding timely general elections.
Talking to the Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq who held a meeting with him at his Jati Umrah residence in Raiwind on Monday, Nawaz Sharif said that preference should be given to the stability of institutions and supremacy of law.
During the meeting, Ayaz Sadiq briefed the president PML-N over delimitation of constituencies, amendment in FATA reforms bill and other matters of important nature.
The speaker national assembly apprised Nawaz Sharif that the government is in contact with various parliamentary political parties, and legislation will soon be completed.
The former prime minister said that contact with political forces should be more constructive for the sake of strengthening democracy. He said that political leadership should be taken into confidence on important matters.
It is worth mentioning here that the issue of FATA reforms has now become a bone of contention between the federal government and the opposition parties since the former withdrew a bill related to bringing reforms in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) from the agenda of the National Assembly.
The opposition parties have been boycotting the National Assembly proceedings since last week, and are of the view that they will continue to do so till FATA Reforms bill is tabled in the Lower House.
