PoliticsNawaz Sharif will always remain in hearts of people: Marriyum Aurangzeb

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The State Minister for Information Marriyum Aurangzeb on Friday said the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was and would always remain in the hearts of people, adding no allegation of corruption could ever be proved against him.

Talking to media representatives in Islamabad after the Supreme Court in a much-awaited judgement declared lawmakers disqualified under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution ineligible to hold public office throughout their lives, Marriyum Aurangzeb said another decision had been announced against Nawaz Sharif.

The information minister said today a prime minister elected for the third time was disqualified before the completion of his trial.

Marriyum Aurangzeb said the people would decide about the disqualification of a politician.

The minister said the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Head Wajid Zia said there had been no document of receiving salary.

“Pakistan’s institutions are respectable for us,” she added.

Earlier the Supreme Court’s five-member larger bench in a unanimous verdict – pronounced by Justice Omer Atta Bandial – declared that disqualification of lawmakers under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution would be for life, leaving a far-reaching impact on political lives of Nawaz Sharif and Jahangir Tareen as they would now never enter the Parliament again as its members.
