ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will be re-elected as President of ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on October 3 after Senate’s approval to the Electoral Reforms Bill 2017 boosted his Chances of regaining his previous position in the party.

Nawaz Sharif had lost the presidency of PML-N simultaneously when he was de-seated as member of National Assembly following his disqualification by the Supreme Court on July 28 in Panama Papers Case.

However the Upper of the Parliament – Senate – passed the Electoral Reforms Bill 2017 on September 22 while rejecting an amendment tabled by Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Senator Aitzaz Ahsan with 38 votes against 37 which, if passed, would have halted the way of Nawaz Sharif to become the PML-N President since he was no longer eligible to become a member of National Assembly.

Sources said that PML-N has convened a meeting of its General Council on October 3 in which the party President will be decided.

They said that the PML-N dominated National Assembly would pass the Electoral Reforms Bill 2017 on October 2 and President Mamnoon Hussain would also give his consent to the bill on the same day.

Therefore, they added, Chances would have brightened for the former prime minister by October 3 to head the ruling PML-N once again.
