ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday lambasted the decision by the Supreme Court, which allowed the former military dictator General (retd) Pervez Musharraf to file his nomination papers for the July 25 general elections.
On Thursday, a three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by the Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar took up an appeal filed by Pervez Musharraf against the Peshawar High Court (PHC) verdict which had declared him disqualified for life for promulgating emergency in November 2007.
The bench also allowed the Returning Officers (ROs) to receive Musharraf’s nomination papers for the upcoming general elections.
“Everything is happening above law. How a person like Musharraf can be given guarantee?” Nawaz Sharif said while having informal talks with media at the Accountability Court in Islamabad wherein the hearing of Avenfield reference against Sharif family resumed.
Nawaz Sharif said that unlawful things are happening everywhere. He said that on the one hand Pervez Musharraf is facing a high treason case while on the other hand he is permitted to contest the election unconditionally, whereas I am facing disqualification for lifetime.
The former prime minister questioned that where have law, the Constitution and article 6 gone? Where are all those cases?. It is beyond understanding, he remarked.
