PoliticsNawaz files review petition against Panama verdict

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday filed a review petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan against Panama verdict.

Nawaz Sharif’s Counsel in Panama Papers Case Khawaja Haris filed the review petition containing 34 pages in the Supreme Court on behalf of his Client.

In his review petition, the former prime minister argued that the fact, on which bases he was disqualified, had been disclosed in his nomination papers with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP). Therefore, he pleaded, the Supreme Court should review its decision in Panama Case, and form a larger bench in this regard.

The Supreme Court was also asked to review the five-member bench’s decision regarding tje monitoring of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) references against Sharif family by a sitting Supreme Court Judge.

Earlier, Nawaz Sharif presided over a consultative meeting in Raiwind in which participants discussed matters of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) organization and political situation in the Country.

It is pertinent to mention here that a five-member Bench of the Supreme Court in its verdict in Panama Papers Case announced on July 28, disqualified the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif under article 62 (1-f) of the Constitution.

In its 25-page verdict, the Bench declared that the former prime minister didn’t mention the details related to Capital FZE in his nomination papers; therefore, he no longer remained ‘Sadiq and Ameen’.

However, Nawaz Sharif and other PML-N leadership voiced serious reservations about the verdict while the former prime minister also led a rally from Islamabad to Lahore via GT road to gather public support in his favour against the Panama verdict.
