KARACHI, Pakistan: Muhammad Zubair on Thursday took oath as the 32nd Governor of Sindh Province, the post which fell vacant after the demise of Justice (retd) Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui.

The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Governor House in Karachi wherein the Chief Justice of the Sindh High Court (SHC) Syed Sajjad Ali Shah administered the oath to Muhammad Zubair.

The Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, State Minister for Information Maryam Aurangzeb, State Minister for Capital Administration and Development (CADD) Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Senator Nihal Hashmi, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) lawmakers in National Assembly and leaders of various political parties and notables attended the ceremony.

Earlier, PML-N’s Muhammad Zubair was serving as the Chairman of the Privatization Commission.

Muhammad Zubair was appointed as the Sindh governor after the 78-year-old Saeed-uz-Zaman Siddiqui passed away in Karachi on January 11, two months after he assumed the above post.

Zubair is the elder brother of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar.

Sources said that PML-N leader Mushahidullah Khan was also being considered for the Post; however, approval of the security establishment paved the way for Muhammad Zubair to secure the position.

Muhammad Zubair is the son of Major General (retd) Ghulam Umar (late) and is believed to have cordial ties with the security brass.
