ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Tuesday asked the government to work for strengthening the supremacy of Parliament.

“I am asking the government from day one to work for the strengthening and supremacy of the Parliament,” Khursheed Shah said while talking on a point of order at the floor of the National Assembly.

“It is unfortunate that parliamentarians from the government benches and the ministers are showing less interest in the proceedings of the Parliament,” he said.

The Opposition leader said that from the day one the opposition is supporting the government on major issues, however the parliamentarians from the treasury benches need to show up and take part in proceedings of the Parliament.

Khursheed Shah said that strong parliament will give a good and strong message to the masses and their trust in democracy will increase and no one will dare to look towards the Parliament.

The Minster for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab agreed with the point of view of opposition leader and expressed his regret that parliamentarians from the treasury benches were attending the session in relatively less numbers.

Sheikh Aftab said before start of each session, he calls parliamentarians on phone, besides informing them in writing and ask them to attend the session so that legislative business of the assembly could move forward.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
