ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Opposition Leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah on Friday called for supremacy of the Constitution and the Parliament for strengthening democratic norms in the country.
Speaking on a point of order, the Opposition Leader said, supremacy of the Constitution and a strong parliament is imperative for the country in prevailing internal and regional circumstances.
He cautioned the government to avoid looking for inroads within the constitution and said, the country is passing through a phase where controversy between the state organs would do no service to people.
Khursheed Shah said the opposition desired full participation in the budget debate as well as process of its passage from the Parliament. But, the opposition was not given an opportunity to address the nation. The budge is for the people and we wanted to direct address the masses from this House.
He said if the speeches of the opposition would not be direct telecast, then it is left with no other option than to hold ‘Peoples Assembly’ outside the Parliament.
He mentioned to situation at borders and internal scenario after recent happenings and said people are worried about all this and are looking towards the government and these Parliament.
Therefore, it is our collective responsibility to fulfill our duties to the people and the country.
The Opposition Leader said, at a time when our two neighbors India and Afghanistan are in conflict with us and Iran is also threatening cross-border action, the controversies between the state organs may be lethal for the country.
Towards the end he demanded live coverage of proceedings of all assemblies including the provincial assemblies as he stuck to his stance of live telecasting his speech and walked out of the House along with all opposition parties.
