ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Friday said the attack on the Hindu Temple in Karak was an irresponsible act and an attempt to damage Pakistan’s image at the international level.

Talking to the media representatives at the Parliament House in Islamabad, the foreign minister strongly denounced the tragic incident of burning of a Hindu Temple by a mob in Karak and said the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Gulzar Ahmed had taken its notice.

In reply to a question, he said Pakistan’s position on the Kashmir and Palestine issues was very clear.

The foreign minister added the Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s stance on those issues was a guiding principle for them.

Turning to internal politics, the minister reiterated the offer to the Opposition to initiate dialogue on national issues at the Forum of Parliament; however, he again ruled out any talks on the ongoing accountability process.

Qureshi said Prime Minister Imran Khan had made it clear time and again that no NRO would be given to the corrupt elements.

However, he added they were political people and believed in the political process and dialogue.

Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leadership was holding a meeting at Jati Umra in Lahore on Friday but differences among the constituent parties of the alliance had already come forth.

The minister said the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Central Executive Committee had decided that the party would take part in the upcoming by-elections and the Senate elections and that it would not tender resignations from assemblies.

Qureshi said the PPP had also not decided any date for the proposed long march.

The minister also said the PDM had decided that their Parliamentarians would send their resignations to the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman by December 31, 2020 but the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari opposed it, arguing that the resignations should have rather be sent to the Heads of the Parties.

That showed the lack of confidence within the alliance, Qureshi added.

In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
