ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) senior leader Syed Khursheed Shah would be Joint Opposition Candidate for Speakership in the National Assembly, PPP’s Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said on Saturday.

In a statement, Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that the Chairman PPP Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has finalized the name of Khursheed Shah in this regard after consultations.

Khokhar said that PPP, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), Awami National Party (ANP) and other allies have decided to field Joint Opposition Candidates.

Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said that the Candidate for the Prime Minister will be from PML-N while the Candidate for the Deputy Speaker in the Lower House will be from MMA.

Sources said that the President PML-N and the former Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif will be the Candidate for the Prime Minister.

However, the government alliance led by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has yet to announce its Candidates for the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker.

Even no date has yet been announced as when the Chairman PTI Imran Khan will take the oath as the Country’s 21st elected prime minister. Though the Caretaker Law Minister Barrister Ali Zafar told media on Friday that the prime minister’s swearing-in ceremony might take place on August 14, the Independence Day.
