PoliticsImran Khan again skips Parliament’s Joint Session

ISLAMABAD: The Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan will not participate in an important Joint Session of the Parliament on Friday wherein the visiting Indonesian President Joko Widodo will also address.

Sources said that Imran Khan has decided not to participate in Parliament’s Joint Session.

They said that Imran Khan will leave for Karachi on Saturday on two-day visit.

During his stay in Karachi, the PTI Chairman will hold meeting with party leaders. Important personalities from Karachi are likely to join PTI.

The Indonesian President Joko Widodo, who will arrive in Islamabad today on a two-day official visit, will also address the Joint Session of the Parliament.

Joko Widodo will be the second President of Indonesia who will address the Joint Sitting of the Parliament. Prior to him, the Indonesian President Dr. Ahmed Soekarno had addressed the National Assembly of Pakistan on June 26, 1963.

It is worth mention here that Imran Khan also did not attend the Joint Session of Parliament when the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed it on November 17, 2016.

Imran Khan has always been under severe criticism from rival political parties not only for his frequent absence from National Assembly sessions but for also his blunt remarks against the Parliament.

In 2014, lawmakers belonging to Imran Khan-led PTI tendered their resignations from the Lower House of the Parliament but later they including Imran Khan returned to the legislature in an “unwelcomed” way.

Recently while addressing a public gathering in Lahore, Imran Khan even cursed upon the Parliament, triggering another flow of harsh criticism against him.
