ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday rejected two separate petitions against ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as its former Head set off on historic journey for Lahore.
Both the petitions filed by Professor Waheed Kamal and Usman Saeed Basra were rejected by Justice Amir Farooq of IHC, declaring them ‘non-maintainable’.
In the first petition, the IHC was asked to stop Nawaz Sharif’s rally towards Lahore via Grand Trunk (GT) road while the second petition was related to placing the names of Sharif family members on Exit Control List (ECL).
The IHC was told in the first petition that the PML-N rally led by the ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was against the verdict of Supreme Court of Pakistan in Panama Papers Case as following the decision, Nawaz Sharif wasn’t even entitled to head the Party – the ruling PML-N.
It was also prayed in the petition that the rally may cause a severe clash between workers of PML-N and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
However, the IHC judge Justice Amir Farooq rejected the petition, saying it was not ‘maintainable’.
Meanwhile, the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left Punjab House in Islamabad for Lahore via GT Road, leading a PML-N Caravan.
Nawaz Sharif is expected to address the supporters and party workers at different places enroute to Lahore.
The PML-n workers have made elaborate arrangements to give tumultuous welcome to the former prime minister.
Prior to his departure, Nawaz Sharif presided over a consultative meeting at which Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb, Azad Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider, Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan Hafiz Hafeezur Rehman, former Federal Minister Pervaiz Rasheed and other leaders participated.
The meeting reviewed matters related to Lahore departure.
