Ukraine moves for House Arrest of former President of Georgia

Monitoring Desk: The office of Prosecutor General of Ukraine has south “House Arrest” of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili.

Prosecutor General Office believes that his (Saakashvili ) life is in danger and there is a possible assassination attempt organized by Russian FSB.

Former Ukrainian Governor and former President of Georgia is facing investigation for his alleged cooperation with Russia-linked “criminal groups”. He has has denounced his prosecution as an attempt to remove him from public activities.

While talking to media out of court today, former President of Georgia stated:

“I don’t consider myself a detainee, I consider myself a prisoner of war,” he told journalists before the court hearing.

According to independent media, thousands of supported of Saakashvili marched in streets of chilling Kiev on Monday and several hundred protesters gathered outside the court where he was produced by law enforcing agencies.

It may be mentioned that Former Georgian President who is also former chairman (Governor) of Odesa Regional State Administration was virtually thrown out of Ukraine this year when he developed differences with Ukrainian ruling party and registered his own political party. President Poroshenko issued a decree stripping Saakashvili of his Ukrainian citizenship but he refused to accept the decree.

On September 10, 2017, Saakashvili traveled by bus to the Medyka-Shehyni border crossing, where he was allowed to pass through a Polish checkpoint on the border with Ukraine, but then he was temporarily blocked from reaching Ukrainian checkpoint by border guards. However, his followers broke through from the Ukrainian side and took Saakashvili into Ukraine.

On December 5, 2017, Saakashvili was temporarily detained by Ukraine’s Security Service in Kyiv but he was freed from police by a large group of protesters. On December 8, 2017, General Prosecutor of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko announced detention of Saakashvili. There are several protests in Capital city of Kiev since political drama started on December 5 which can hamper Ukrainian economy that is coming out of recession after two years. EU is looking the situation keenly but quietly while US is yet to express its viewpoint over Saakashvili issue.
