ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal government has decided to hold the upcoming Senate Elections in February 2021 instead of March.

While briefing the media persons about the decision taken in the Federal Cabinet meeting held in Islamabad on Tuesday with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the chair, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting Senator Shibli Faraz told that the Cabinet has decided to seek the guidance of the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding holding the upcoming Senate Elections through a show of hands.

Shibli Faraz said that our aim is to ensure transparent and credible elections of the upper house.

The information minister said that a bill has also been introduced in the Parliament regarding the Senate Elections with the aim to check the horse-trading.

Senator Shibli Faraz said that it’s also in the interest of all political parties so that only those candidates who are nominated by the parties come to the Upper House and that the parties get the seats as per their strength in the Electoral College.

In addition, the minister told that a report of the Inquiry Commission into the shortage of petroleum products that hit the Country earlier in 2020 was also presented before the Cabinet today.

The information minister said that the prime minister has constituted a Committee headed by the Minister for Planning Asad Umar and also comprising Shafqat Mahmood, Shireen Mazari, and Azam Swati to fix the responsibility on those behind the crisis.

The Committee will put forward its recommendations in the next Cabinet meeting.
