PoliticsFATA Reforms issue to be solved within few days: PML-N leader

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Jan Muhammad Achakzai has said that FATA Reforms issue will be solved within few days, urging the opposition parties not to resort to protest or staging a sit-in over the issue.

In a statement, the PML-N leader said that the issue related to bringing reforms in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) laws is being face for last 70 years.

“We will resolve this issue taking all the parties on board,” Jan Achakzai said.

Earlier on Monday, the opposition parties resorted to strong protest in the National Assembly after the government withdrew its decision to table the FATA Reforms bill in the House for debate.

The FATA Reforms bill had earlier been made part of the agenda but later it was pulled off, which according to the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed, happened because further consultation was required on the bill

However, the lawmakers from opposition parties Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and even the PML-N ally Shahabuddin Khan from FATA strongly protested and tore copies of the agenda.

Later the protesting lawmakers led by the Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah staged a walkout of the Lower House.

Khursheed Shah also lambasted the federal government, and said that the later had made the matter a joke. He said that the FATA issue had been under consideration since the PML-N government took over.

The Opposition Leader said that if the government was helpless or had some compulsions, it should have apprised the opposition about them.
