PoliticsFATA merger should be decided as per wishes of tribesmen: Fazlur Rehman

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that they are in favor of the abolition of FATA Crime Regulation (FCR) but the decision affecting the fate of tribal people should be made by taking all the stakeholders on board.

While addressing FATA Youth Conference at Tahmas Stadium in Peshawar on Saturday, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that he fully supports the abolition of FCR but it would be more appropriate if the decision is made according to the wishes and aspirations of tribal people.

“I am not against merger of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but problems of tribal people can be solved properly if their areas were given status of a separate province,” he said.

The JUI-F Chief said that if Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) is made a separate province it will receive a handsome amount of Rs120 million annually that will change the entire scenario in tribal areas.

Maulana said that destiny of tribesmen, who faced many hardships with endurance and scattered throughout the Country, should be decided after giving them homes and peace.

Fazlur Rehman said that JUI-F is being targeted owing to their struggle for the rights of people living in tribal areas. He said that our opponents want to confine us to only religion but we would continue struggle for the rights of Pakhtuns on every available forum.
