PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Asad Qaiser has written a letter to the Election Commission, asking it to appoint the Provincial Caretaker Chief Minister within two days after the Parliamentary Committee failed to agree on any name.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has proposed Himayatullah Khan and Ejaz Ahmad Qureshi while the Opposition Parties have backed Manzoor Khan Afridi and Justice (retd) Dost Muhammad for the Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“In accordance with clause (3) of Article 224A of the Constitution or Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Committee constituted did not agree on any person and shown its inability for finalization of a name of any person for appointment of the Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from the referred nominees,” read the letter.
“As per proviso with clause (3) of Article 224A of the Constitution, that in case of inability of the Committee to decide the matter with in three days. The names of the nominees shall be referred to the Election Commission of Pakistan the final decision within two days.”
“It is, therefore, requested that as per proviso clause (3) of Article 224A of the Constitution the Caretaker Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may be appointed within two days,” it further read.
