ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday announced the schedule of Senate elections, which will be held on March 3.

According to a notification issued by ECP, the commission has called upon the members of the provincial assemblies of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan province to elect the senate seven members from general seats, two members from the seats reserved for women and two members for the seats reserved for technocrats including Ulema from each of province.

It added these new members will be elected in place of the members of the Senate, who are due to retire after the expiration of their term of office on March 11, 2018. The public notice informing the candidates about acquiring and submission of nomination papers would be issued on February 3.

The last date for filing of nomination papers by the candidates with the Returning Officer (RO) would be February 8 (between 0900 hours and 1600 hours). The last date for publication of names of the nominated candidates would be February 9.

The last date for scrutiny of nomination papers would be February 12 (from 1000 hours to 1600 hours) while the last date for filling of appeals against acceptance or rejection of nominations would be February 15 (from 0900 to 1600 hours).

The last date for disposal of appeals by the tribunal would be February 17 while the last date for publication of revised list of candidates would be February 18.

The last date for withdrawal of candidature would be February 19 (between 0900 hours and 1600 hours).

The polling time would be from 0900 hours to 1600 hours on March 3 while places of polling would be Provincial assembly building, Lahore for Punjab, provincial assembly building, Karachi for Sindh, provincial assembly building Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Peshawar for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and provincial assembly building, Quetta for Balochistan.

The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
