ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has refuted media reports of issuing any statement regarding general elections.

In a statement on Tuesday, the ECP said that it hasn’t issued any statement to media, expressing its inability to conduct general elections within three months.

Earlier the Dawn News carried a statement attributed to the ECP saying that it was not possible for the Commission to hold general elections in 90 days time frame.

The Dawn News said that according to a Senior Official of the ECP, various ‘legal hitches and procedural challenges’ were the reasons for the ECP to require six months for making preparations for the polls.

“Fresh delimitation of constituencies, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where the number of seats had been increased under the 26th Amendment, and bringing district- and constituency-wise electoral rolls in conformity were the major challenges,” the daily reported citing the ECP Official.
