PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) Ali Amin Gandapur has been elected as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province by receiving 90 votes.
His opponent Ibadullah Khan of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) garnered 16 votes.
The voting was held at the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in Peshawar on Friday morning with the Speaker Babar Saleem Swati in the Chair.

In his address at the House after being elected as the Provincial Chef Minister, Ali Amin Gandapur announced the restoration of Sehat Card across the province from the first of Ramadan.
Gandapur demanded the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja as he failed to hold free and fair elections on February 8, and also asked the Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa to form a Judicial Commission to probe May 9 incidents.
The newly elected Chief Minister also offered to open all Consituencies in the province to ascertain the elections results in the light of Form-45.
Ali Amin Gandapur further said that all bogus Cases must be closed within a week or otherwise, be ready to face the consequences.
Earlier on Thursday, Babar Saleem Swati was elected as the Speaker KP Assembly after he secured 89 votes while Ihsan Ullah Mian Khel of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) received 17 votes.
Whereas the SIC’s Suraya Bibi was elected as the second female and 22nd Deputy Speaker of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly with 87 votes defeating her opponent Arbab Waseem of PTI-Parliamentarians who received 19 votes.
Separately, the Balochistan Assembly elected unopposed Abdul Khaliq Achakzai of PML-N as the Speaker of the House and Ghazala Gula of PPP as the Deputy Speaker.
