ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Accountability Court in Islamabad – hearing Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investments references against the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif – on Friday hinted at summoning the Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry over his remarks about Nawaz Sharif’s conviction.
During the hearing of Flagship Investments reference, Nawaz Sharif’s lawyers raised objections over the statement of Fawad Chaudhary – in which he said that Nawaz Sharif would 100 percent be convicted – and said the information minister tried to influence the Court.
The lawyers also made a plea to summon the information minister.
The Accountability Court Judge Arshad Malik asked lawyers to file a proper petition against Fawad Chaudhry. He said that if we will have to issue notice for Fawad Chaudhry, we will proceed accordingly.
“Let me go through the matter. After seeing the interview we will issue the notice if needed,” Judge Arshad Malik said.
Earlier on Thursday, in an interview with Geo Talk Show ‘Capital Talk’ hosted by Hamid Mir, Fawad Chaudhry said that the facts about Hill Metal Establishment case are before everyone, and expressed the confidence that Nawaz Sharif would go to prison again.
The former three-time Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with daughter Maryam Nawaz and Son-in-Law Captain (retd) Mohammad Safdar have already been convicted by the Accountability Court in Avenfield Properties reference filed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) as per directive of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
However on September 19, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended their convictions and ordered their release.
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif’s Counsel Khawaja Haris continued cross examination of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) Head Wajid Zia in Flagship Investments Reference Case today.
