PM to lay foundation stone of 2 coal fired power plants in Sahiwal on Friday

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to lay the foundation stone of two coal fired power plants having a total generation capacity of 1,320 megawatt at Qadirabad in Sahiwal District on Friday (May 30).

A consortium of Chinese companies will carry out this project by November 2016 at a cost of $150 billion.

The Punjab government has constituted a cabinet committee to constantly review progress and other matters relating to the project.

Meanwhile, the Nandipur Power Project has begun generating 95 megawatt of power in its first phase. The prime minister will formally inaugurate the functioning of the project on Saturday.

The project has a total capacity of 425 megawatts and it would be completed by December this year at a cost of $574 million. The project is being executed by China Don Fang Electric Corporation.
