FAISALABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan is set to perform groundbreaking of the Allama Iqbal Industrial City in Faisalabad on Friday, the first prioritized Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Pakistan being established under the multi-billion dollars China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The Allama Iqbal Industrial City is strategically located on Motorway M-4 at Sahianwala Interchange Faisalabad.

Under the CPEC Industrial Cooperation Framework, nine Special Economic Zones have been planned, out of them, three SEZs have been declared as Prioritized Special Economic Zones by Pakistan and China governments including the Allama Iqbal Industrial City in Punjab (Faisalabad), the Rashakai SEZ in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Dhabajee SEZ in Sindh.

The first phase of the Allama Iqbal Industrial City will be completed in year 2021.

The Allama Iqbal Industrial City SEZ will generate employment opportunities for 300,000 people and Rs 400 billion investments.



During his visit, the prime minister will also inaugurate first shelter home in Faisalabad.
