LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday approved a proposed draft for the local government system in Punjab, the proposed bill to be tabled in the Punjab Assembly on Monday, sources in the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said.

Earlier, the Prime Minister was given a briefing by Provincial Secretary Local Government Jawwad Rafiq about the proposed local government system in Punjab in Lahore on Saturday.

The Prime Minister desired that local government system should revolve around empowering the local population. He said the system should focus on education‚ health and Panchayat system.

The PM Nawaz said possibility of introduction of Panchayat system in rural areas and Conciliation Committees in urban areas should be considered.

The premier also called for more representation of women and minorities in the new local government system.
