PIA cancels flights to Bangladesh till March 10

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan International Airline (PIA) has canceled all of its schedule flights to Bangladesh till March 10 to protest the humiliation and harassment of its county manager in Dhaka.

The Bangladeshi authorities carried out a raid on the house of the PIA country manager Ali Abbas in Dhaka four days ago on suspicion of smuggling currencies and gold. Later, he was deported to Pakistan.

On Thursday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said at her weekly media briefing in Islamabad that Pakistan has contacted the Bangladesh High Commission, seeking clarification on Bangladeshi security agencies harassing PIA crew and passengers.

“Our High Commission in Dhaka has taken up the matter with the Bangladesh Foreign Office. We await their explanation and response. This indeed is an unfortunate development,” Aslam said while commenting on the issue.
