PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) on Tuesday suspended the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) decision of nullifying Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) intra-party polls and revoking its popular ‘bat’ symbol.
The verdict was announced by Justice Kamran Hayat Miankhel after conducting the hearing.
In its short order, Justice Kamran Hayat Miankhel noted that the ECP doesn’t have the authority to withdraw the election symbol from a political party.
Justice Kamran remarked that apparently attempts are being made to exclude a particular party from the entire election process.
The PHC judge issued notices to all concerned parties for the further hearing to be conducted by a division bench on January 09.
Earlier on December 22, the Election Commission nullified the PTI’s intra-party elections, citing the party’s non-compliance with directives and failure to conduct polls in accordance with the PTI’s Constitution and election regulations.
