Peace talks: Taliban committee to visit North Waziristan on Thursday

PESHAWAR: The Taliban committee reached North Waziristan on Thursday via helicopter provided by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to hold a meeting with the Taliban Shura on the formation of new government committee for talks.

The members include Jamaat-i-Islami’s Professor Muhammad Ibrahim and the coordinator of the Taliban negotiating team Maulana Yousaf Shah besides Maulana Abdul Haye‚ the guarantor of the Taliban.

Talking to media in Peshawar before departure‚ Maulana Yousaf Shah said that second phase of talks for taking decisions has started.

Maulana Yousaf said that they are proceeding to finalize agenda and site for direct dialogue between the Taliban and the government committee.

A four-member new peace committee led by federal secretary ports and shipping Habibullah Khattak has been constituted by the federal government to hold talks with the Taliban.

The new government committee includes Habibullah Khattak, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) member Rustam Shah Mohmand, who was also the part of the previous government committee, the additional secretary FATA Arbab Arif and the prime minister’s additional secretary Fawad Hassan Fawad.
