Noor Jahan Drama Review

Noor Jahan drama review

Noor Jahan received massive criticism for being a typical saas-bahu drama where saas is strict and considers all the bahus as slaves. It is quite true about the drama but there is more to the story. So, sit down and read all the good and bad about this drama.

Noor Jahan’s Character Depth

Even though we believe that the world has evolved and everyone is knowledgeable enough to do the right thing, we are wrong. Noor Jahan drama is a perfect example of how society still works. It portrays Noor Jahan as a central character. She is a single mother of three sons. In the past, she married a man of a highly influential family who did not accept her and she turned to revenge.

That insecurity of being from a lower class adds depth to Noor Jahan’s character. This depth makes her more than any ordinary saas (Mother-in-law). The inferiority she was made to feel, in the past, projects in her personality in a way that she tries to be a master of everyone around her. With her effort, she has created an egoist bubble around her that she runs everything according to the own will. Her sons are slaves to her will. They blindly trust their mother because Noor Jahan centred their whole life around her.

Due to the criticism she faced for being from a lower cast in the Shah family, she became dominant and assertive and could not bow down to any criticism. She has created a negatively strong personality for herself to protect her ego. The dominance is quite irritating to the audience that despite being so rich, she makes her daughters-in-law work in the house like maids due to her ‘so-called asools” (rules).

Noor Bano’s character

Noor Jahan drama review

Noor Jahan drama runs only around the two Noors. To handle all the dominance and egoist nature of Noor Jahan, we have Noor Bano as her character foil or an alter ego. Noor Bano’s characters is exceptionally played by Kubra Khan. While Noor Jahan has brought her two elder daughters-in-law from less-advantaged families, she chooses Noor Bano for her youngest son Murad to take revenge on her father for the humiliations of the past.

But, the tables turn and Noor Jahan feels regret of her decision. The drama became thrilling soon after Noor Bano and Murad’s wedding.  She is perfectly chosen as a counterpart to Noor Jahan who can take her place. In the recent episodes after Mukhtar Shah’s death, every encounter between Noor Jahan and Noor Bano is a thrill to watch. Every dart that Noor Jahan throws falls to the ground before reaching the goal.

Portrayal of Society

In this Noor Jahan drama review, I would like to highlight the bitter realities portrayed in the plot. This drama unfolds a lot of truths about our society that showcase the low demeanour, selfishness, and class differences of the society.

First of all, Noor Jahan and her family are portrayed as educated, sensible, and mature. But, the audacity to act so dumb is irritating to a serious point. It highlights that though a family may appear educated the deeply-rooted ignorance always finds a way out.

Some bitter portrayals of society are Noor Jahan’s obsession with a grand-son, dislike for to-be-born baby girls in the family, Hunaid’s inability to understand that child is from a man’s fate, and Noor Jahan’s treatment of her bahus as slaves. Moreover, Noor Jahan’s choice of DILs from lower-class families to subjugate them. Her inability to accept defeat at anyone’s hands. Her insensitivity to someone’s death. To top it all, the inhumane treatment with all the bahus in the drama. The inferiority complex, misogyny, mistreatment, and manipulation are all unacceptable. All of these are highly unlikeable in Noor Jahan drama but to be honest, these are the realities of our society.

Noor Bano and Safina’s DIALOGUES!

Something extremely likeable in this whole drama is the dialogue, especially from Noor Bano and Safina. Their characters are highly appreciated. Kubra Khan and Alina Abbas present an amazing on-screen partnership against Noor Jahan. The intensified interaction between the two Noors in the story is a thrill. Noor Bano is so good with comebacks that only she can make the senior Noor shut up which the audience desperately wants. Fans love how smartly she is trying to defeat Noor Jahan’s ego. What else they are waiting for is a humble-down Noor Jahan who can come to terms with the reality of life rather than considering herself a ruler. That is only possible with Noor Bano.

Final Verdict

To be very honest, the initial episodes were not interesting and the criticism was well-deserved. But the slow-paced evolution of the story was the demand of the plot. Ever since Noor Jahan has gotten Noor Bano in her life, every episode has been a treat. For me, the drama highlights more than a desperately-in-love couple torn by society. Ot a love triangle. Or an extra-marital affair. Noor Jahan presents that there is more to the drama industry. It centres around the conflicting identities, familial relationships, and revenge. So, that viewers can get out of the monotonous routine of the dramas. They get to see some interesting beyond-the-surface plots to feed their minds.
