Islamabad: This is tradition of Pakistan army if a General is supersede by his junior by posting of his junior as Chief of Army, the senior most General resigns as Ali Kuli Khan did.
Lieutenant General Muhammad Haroon Aslam was senior most General in Pakistan Amry till November 27, 2013 before the promotion of his junior Gen Sharif as Chief of the Army. Gen Haroon was the Chief of Logistics Staff (CLS), of Pakistan Army. In the past he served as Director Military Operations, commanded the Elite Force Division (Special Services Group) and Corps Commander of Bahawalpur. He lead Operation Rah-e-Rast in 2009 in Swat valley. Under his command the (Special Services Group) fought bravely in Piochar Valley and liberated that area from the terrorists. He was due to retire on 9 April 2014 but on 27 November 2013 when Lt Gen Raheel Sharif (a junior Gen) was appointed as COAS, He resigned as per Military culture. He was one of most senior serving army generals and therefore he was one of the potential candidates to become Chief Of Army Staff of Pakistan Army. Gen. Haroon Aslam did not attend farewell Core Commanders Conference in GHQ. Army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani chaired his farewell Core Commander Conference on his last day before retirement.
Tribute will be paid to General Kayani for his services to Pakistan Army in this conference whereas he will also address to these commanders.
