ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Assembly on Monday was informed that about 2.028 million Pakistani workers traveled abroad during last three years for employment purposes.

Answering a question in lower house of the Parliament, Parliamentary Secretary for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Shafqat Hayat Baloch said 953945 people moved to Saudi Arabia, 112670 Oman, 0.845 million UAE, about 23000 Bahrain, Malaysia 45000 and 277108 people went to Qatar during the same period.

He said National Migration Policy was drafted in 2008 and it could not be finalized due to devolution of the then Ministry of Labor and Manpower following the 18th amendment in Constitution.

To a question of Dr Shazia Sobai, he, however, said about 3.417 million Pakistani workers registered for overseas employments during last five year.

Shafqat Hayat said ministry concerned was making its best efforts to maximize the export of manpower from Pakistan to different countries of the world and the country has signed MoUs with four Gulf Cooperation Council Members including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and UAE in this regard.

Moscow says it won’t allow US to silence UNSC on Israeli violence against Palestinians Monitoring Desk: Russian envoy in United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said that the UN Security Council should bring peace, stability and prosperity to the Middle East and Russia would not allow United States to silence UNSC over the issue of Gaza crisis. According to TASS news Agency, Nebenzya said that Moscow will continue to call for an end to violence against Palestinians and will not allow the US to muzzle the UN Security Council as Washington seeks to support Israel's operation in Gaza. "We will continue to stand firmly for ending violence against the Palestinians. Without a shadow of a doubt, we will continue to expose the abuses and sanctimony with which the US is handling the situation. We will not allow the Americans to gag the entire council with their hands in an effort to encourage further continuation of Israel's ruthless operation," he said in a speech at the Security Council.
