PakistanSindh governor Ebad returns to Pakistan

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan returned to Pakistan on Thursday from Dubai on directives by Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain to resume his responsibilities, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

The MQM Coordination Committee on Tuesday in a statement confirmed Ebad’s resignation, saying he had taken up this decision in accordance with his conscience.

Talking to media following his arrival at Karachi airport, the governor said that he had tendered his resignation on his own, adding that he withdrew his resignation on the advice of MQM Chief Altaf Hussain.

Ebad said President Asif Ali Zardari sent Rehman Malik to Dubai who convinced him that his presence in the city was necessary to control law and order situation.

Meanwhile, he thanked Altaf Hussain and President Asif Ali Zardari and sought blessings of them.

It should be mentioned here that earlier on Friday morning, the governor left for London via Dubai to have a meeting with Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) Chief Altaf Hussain. But, he hitherto stayed in Dubai for his medical checkups.

It is also pertinent to note here that Ebad left the country earlier on June 28, 2011 after he resigned from his office; however, President Asif Ali Zardari rejected his resignation 20 days after his resignation. He retraced his step back into the governorship after a series of negotiations with the government.

Talking to the governor Ebad, Muttahida chief said that the people of Sindh want him to withdraw his resignation; hence, he should withdraw his resignation immediately and begin working for peace in the province.

The party’s premier body on Tuesday, while giving explanatory statement in this regard, confirmed Ebad’s resignation, saying he has taken up this decision in accordance with his conscience.

In the same statement, the Coordination Committee declared as baseless and unfounded all reports regarding the differences between the party leadership and Governor Sindh, saying the unsubstantiated and false reports on differences between the party’s leadership and governor Ebad are meant to trigger chaos among the rows of the MQM.
