CrimeShahzeb murder case: SC dissatisfied over Police report

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Thursday expressed its dissatisfaction on the progress report submitted by the police over the case pertaining to the murder of Shahzeb Khan and summoned the Director and Investigating Officer of the Federal Investigations Agency (FIA) to appear before it on the next hearing, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

The 20-year-old Shahzeb Khan, the son of serving DSP of Sindh Police, was shot dead in December in Defence area of Karachi following an argument with the accused and his friends. The accused belonged to an influential landlord of Sindh.

A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry and comprising of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard the case on Thursday.

At the outset, police submitted a report on the murder according to which unlicensed pistol was used for the murder.

Moreover, the vehicle used in the incident belonged to the brother of principal accused Shahrukh Jatoi, who was using the vehicle on a ‘transfer letter.’ The Medical Board has confirmed that Jatoi is an adult and that his educational record show 1993 as birth year, the report said.

However, the chief justice expressed his dissatisfaction on the report and questioned as to why the case had not progressed during the past two months? He further ordered for the police file over the case to be submitted in court.

The Chief Justice in his remarks said that the entire nation was following the matter which had turned into a test case for the police and courts, adding that there was no policing in the state and crime was increasing in every direction.

While Justice Azmat Saeed remarked that the helplessness showed by the law enforcement agencies in Pakistan was worse than that of any African country.
