ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has demanded written reply from the federation on hurdles in facilitating overseas Pakistan voters while Caretaker IT Minister, Sania Nishtar, has said that they need 18 months to examine misfits in installation of system.

A three-member bench led by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chauhdry conducted hearing of case about overseas Pakistani voters’ facilitation case.

The DG of Election Commission, Sher Afgan, informed the court during hearing that an ordinance has been sent to the law ministry for facilitating overseas Pakistani voters and that would be forwarded to the President, after getting approval.

Sania Nishtar, Caretaker IT Minister, reported the court that pre-voting system needs legislation first and then 18 months are required to examine misfits in installation of system.

All institutes respect the court and perhaps this is why covering the facts but she is telling facts and hurdles being faced in E-voting, added the IT Minister, saying letters had been sent to nine countries about facilitation to overseas Pakistani voters but only two replied.

The Chief Justice enquired to the DG of Election Commission that when you were aware of these all facts then why continued wasting court’s time.

Later on, the court issued instructions to the federation for submitting a written reply on the issue and adjourned hearing of the case till tomorrow.
