PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Peshawar Custom Tuesday launched the WEBOC (Web Based One Custom) system at Torkhem border post in a bid to comply with this year’s theme of World Custom Day of `Digital Customs, Progressive Engagement.

Collector Custom Peshawar, Qurban Ali Khan performed the inauguration of WEBOC at a ceremony held at Torkhem.

The installation of computerized system at Torkem for checking imports items including cotton and mineral coal is a step towards Digitalization of Custom as envisioned in World Custom Day theme of this year, said Qurban Ali while addressing a ceremony held in connection with observance of nternational Custom Day.

Collector Custom said initially the WEBOC is limited to clearance of imported items including cotton and mineral coal. With the passage of time more items would be included in it to expedite clearance of truck loaded with goods.

Qurban Ali said the new era of Digital Customs has transformed the way that customs operate. Digitalization would ensure ultimately the enhanced ability of Custom administration to communicate, process goods and information, coordinate border management collaborate on law enforcement actions and promote transparency.

He also announced that soon the WEBOC system would be launched at new established Custom Posts in Kurram Agency.

He said the Custom Department has embarked upon a policy of facilitating business community of the country by providing them maximum facilities besides generating revenue for the official kitty.

The whole custom department has been computerized ensuing in speedy processing of documentations relating to clearance of goods for imports and exports.

Qurban Ali Khan said about 20 years ealier in Custom deparment there was only one Collector for whole KP, FATA and Gilgit Baltistan, but now there are around 1000 officials in the whole Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Now Custom Collectorate has become a progressing organization where no one can fleece the traders in name of documentation, he remarked.

He apprised participants that Pakistan Customs has made phenomenal progress in the use of technology in recent years.Ā  Presence of an updated website of customs having all relevant information has facilitated all stakeholders including officials.

We have installed digital cameras at various customs stations and offices for better monitoring and enforcement, he said and added that several other projects like the digitalization of office record and an automated Human Resource Management System shall be completed during current fiscal year.

Later Collector Customs also distributed commendation certificates among some retired and serving officials of Custom department. Heirs of martyred custom employees were also awarded with Honor certificates.
