CHICAGO, United States: Pakistan is taking a series of steps to eliminate extremism and sectarian intolerance in the country, Consul General of Pakistan in Chicago Faisal Niaz Tirmizi has said.
During a visit to the World Affairs Council of Kentucky/Southern Indiana, he also told his audience that efforts were underway to promote religious harmony.
According to a press release, the Consul General, as part of his series of briefings at think-tanks and Universities of Midwestern US, was at Indian University Bloomington on April 6.
Speaking to students and faculty of the University, Tirmizi said that Pakistan and United States have excellent and diverse cooperative ties.
He also presented a power-point presentation that highlighted the history, current state of affairs and future prospects of Washington-Islamabad ties.
The Consul General especially praised the role played by strong Pakistani-American Community in forging relations between the two countries. While speaking about future expansion of the existing Pak-US relations, he stressed the need for more people-to-people contacts and encouraged the Pakistani-American community to actively participate in the local social and political activities.
