ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan will participate in the 21st ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) ministerial meeting to be held in Myanmar’s capital Nay Pyi Taw on Sunday.

The prime minister’s special assistant on foreign affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi will lead the Pakistani delegation on the invitation of the union minister for foreign affairs of the republic of the union of Myanmar, U Wunna Maung Lwin.

The meeting, to be attended by the foreign ministers and representatives of all the 27 ARF participants and the secretary-general of ASEAN, will provide an opportunity to discuss common political and security issues and harmonize national foreign policy positions and objectives through dialogue and cooperation.

The ARF is the first region wide Asia-Pacific multilateral forum for official consultations on peace and security issues. It was established in 1993 as a regional political and security arm of ASEAN. Pakistan joined ARF in 2004.

On the sidelines of the 21st ARF, Tariq Fatemi will also hold bilateral meetings with other participating ministers.
