ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday that Pakistan desired strong and cooperative relationship with the United States and would support an initiative for peace in Afghanistan.

In a meeting with US Ambassador Richard Olson in Islamabad on Friday, the Prime Minister reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to all initiatives designed to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan.

US Secretary of State John Kerry is expected to visit Pakistan in the next two days. During his visit Kerry is expected to discuss the future of trade between the two countries along with prospects of pushing reconciliation efforts in Afghanistan and establishing peace in the country before the US-led NATO pullout.

“The Prime Minister also conveyed to Ambassador Olson that he looked forward to receive US Secretary of State John Kerry and in addition to sharing views on the present state of the relationship, also wanted to share a vision of bilateral relations in the future,” a statement from the PM House said.

Ambassador Olson shared with the Prime Minister US priorities relating to the visit and also took the opportunity to brief the Prime Minister on Pakistan-US relations and the regional situation.
