PakistanNew Islamabad Airport to be completed in October this year; Senate told

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Minister for Capital Administration and Development Division Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry said Wednesday work on the new International Islamabad Airport was moving ahead and the facility would be completed by October 2016.

Speaking in the Senate during question-hour, the minister said earlier the ambitious project faced some delays due to certain factors including availability issue of water, but now he added, land had been acquired for construction of dams to store water in collaboration with the Punjab government.

Thus, water-related issues now stood resolved and the airport would be completed on October 30, 2016, he added.

The minister said the Capital Development Authority (CDA) as per provision of the Master Plan of Islamabad had completed Kashmir Highway (section I & II) from Peshawar Mor to Golra Mor.

However, he added, the third section of Kashmir Highway from Golra Mor to GT Road was transferred to National Highway Authority (NHA) as per decision in the Planning Commission.

Accordingly, he said, the record and design was handed over to NHA for incorporation in the PC-I of the Road connection to New International Airport and execution of the project.

Now, the minister said the ECNEC has excluded third section of Kashmir Highway during the approval of PC-1 and added the CDA had taken up this project and would be completed on October 30, 2016.

Replying to another question, the minister said due to non submission of educational degrees in due time, salary of 95 CDA officials was stopped for the month of October 2015.

He added after stoppage of salary, 74 out of the total officials submitted their educational degrees while remaining 21 officers failed to submit their degrees.

He said these officials were then issued show-cause notices and all the 21 officers replied to these notices.
