CrimeMQM continues to boycott Sindh Assembly session

KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Provincial lawmakers on Friday staged a token sit-in and continued their boycott of the Sindh Assembly for the second consecutive day against the withdrawal of criminal cases against Lyari gangsters, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

On Thursday, media reports claimed the Sindh government withdrew all cases registered against Lyari gangsters during a police operation last year, prompting MQM to lodge a strong protest and stage a walkout in Provincial Assembly.

Later, an emergency meeting was convened in which it was stated the Pakistan People’s P Party’s (PPP) move showed it had closed its doors on forming an electoral alliance with them.

However, Sindh Information Minister Sharjil Memon denied withdrawal of cases, saying any such decision would be taken in consultation with the MQM.

“We won’t make any compromise on this an anti-Karachi step,” MPA Faisal Sabzwari told reporters outside the Sindh Assembly.

Faisal said that withdrawal of cases against people involved in bloodshed cannot restore peace in the city.
