LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday dismissed a petition challenging appointments of caretaker Prime Minister and Chief Minister Punjab, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

A single-member bench of LHC comprising Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial heard the case.

The petitioner’s lawyer maintained the stance that the appointments of caretaker Prime Minister and caretaker chief minister of Punjab were illegal as the constitutional obligations were not upheld during the process.

The chief justice remarked that said that the caretaker PM and the caretaker CM Punjab were appointed according to the constitution. Later, the court dismissed the petition.

Mir Hazar Khan Khoso was selected as caretaker Prime Minister by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) after a parliamentary committee over the issue failed to develop consensus.

On the other hand, senior journalist Najam Sethi was picked by the provincial parliamentary committee as the caretaker chief minister of the Punjab.
