KARACHI: The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Friday summoned officials of the National Database Registration Authority (NADRA) and National Alien Registration Authority (NARA) over the presence of millions of foreign settlers in the city, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

A four-member larger bench of the apex court headed by Jawwad S. Khawaja resumed the hearing of Karachi law-and-order suo motu implementation case in Karachi at the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry.

The Inspector General of Sindh, Chief Secretary Sindh and other top officials appeared before the apex court today.  During the hearing, the court asked IGP that where 1.2 million Afghans had gone.

“The number of immigrants residing in Karachi is equal to voters of three National Assembly seats,” Justice Arif Khilji remarked.

Regarding the incidents of target killings, IG Sindh said “127 policemen were killed, 114 cases were registered and 182 target killers were apprehended.”

In his remarks, Justice Khawaja said Karachi is burning but nobody is bothered at all.  He pointed out the failure of IGP to protect even police personnel.

The court later put off the hearing till Feb 25.
