RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond visited the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Tuesday and called on the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif.

In a statement, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that during the meeting, matters of mutual interest including security situation in the region were discussed.

The British foreign secretary acknowledged and appreciated Pakistan Army’s sincere efforts and sacrifices in the war against terrorism and for stability in the region.

Earlier, on arrival at the army’s general headquarters, the foreign secretary laid a wreath at Yadgar-e-Shuhada.

A smartly turned out contingent of Pakistan Army presented the guard of honour to the visiting dignitary.

Separately, the British Foreign Secretary also called on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad and discussed bilateral relations and regional situation.

The ways and means to further bolster relations in different areas including energy, trade and economy also came under discussion.

Moreover, in a meeting with the Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali in Islamabad today, Philip Hammond discussed bilateral relations and cooperation in anti-terrorism efforts.
