KARACHI, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday performed the ground breaking of Green Line Bus Transport System in Karachi, first ever Rapid Transit System of the country to be initiated by the federal government.

The modern transport system will be completed at a cost of Rs16,085 million. It will be completed within a year and will benefit about 300,000 commuters daily.

“The Green Line Bus Rapid Transit System is a significant milestone in upgrading and decongesting the overburdened transport infrastructure of Karachi as well as reducing the cost and travel time for the residents of Karachi,” said a statement issued by the PM House.

The Rapid Transit system would start from Surjani Town and culminate at Municipal Park, M.A Jinnah Road.

Earlier upon his arrival at the Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, the prime minister was received by Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

The prime minister was also briefed at a meeting in Karachi about the overall law and order situation in Sindh province.

The meeting was attended amongst others by Governor Sindh Ishratul Ibad, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and DG Rangers Sindh Major General Bilal Akbar

The Federal Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed was also present on the occasion.
