ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan and the United States have expressed willingness to further strengthen their bilateral relations.

In a meeting with the US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale who called on him at PM Office in Islamabad on Thursday and discussed Pak-US bilateral relations, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that Pakistan considers the United States as an important partner.

The prime minister said that Pakistan also wishes to further strengthen its existing relations with the United States.

The US ambassador congratulated Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on assuming the Office of Prime Minister of Pakistan and expressed the desire to enhance cooperation between the two Countries.

It was the first meeting between the new Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and a high ranked US official since the former assumed the Office of Prime Minister earlier this month.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi became Pakistan’s 18th Prime Minister after the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) de-seated Nawaz Sharif as the member of legislatures as per directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan.

Nawaz Sharif was disqualified by the Supreme Court under article 62 (1)(f) of 1973 Constitution in Panama verdict.
